In 1936, under the leadership of Mrs. Phil C. Peters, a group of twenty-five individuals laid the groundwork for the Winter Garden Welfare League. Initially focused on supporting the West Orange County Day Nursery, the League has since dedicated 85 years to serving the community through various projects and fundraising initiatives.
Today, the impact of the League resonates across the West Orange Community. Our mission remains steadfast:
- Cultivate member interest in the social, economic, educational, cultural, and civic needs of West Orange County.
- Provide training and involvement opportunities for members to effectively engage in public service.
- Generate funds through member-driven activities to support charitable endeavors and advance the organization's mission.
Presently, local organizations depend on our assistance not for luxuries, but for essential support.

Message from Our President
As we celebrate 90 years of empowering women in West Orange County, it is an honor and a
privilege to serve as President of the West Orange Junior Service League. Our League has long
been a driving force for positive change, and as we reflect on our remarkable history, we are
energized by the many milestones we have reached together.
Founded in 1936, our roots were planted by a group of visionary women determined to make a
difference. Their legacy continues today, fueling our passion for service, mentorship, and
training. Since we became the West Orange Junior Service League, we have continuously
evolved to meet the changing needs of our community.
As we embark on the 2025–26 League year, we remain deeply committed to our Mission: The
West Orange Junior Service League is a nonprofit, charitable organization of women dedicated
to the betterment of the West Orange community by volunteering and fundraising for those in
need. Since 1936, we have been committed to helping the less fortunate and furthering
education through scholarships for postsecondary education.
Through our Mission and commitment, we are advancing the leadership of women and
ensuring a positive impact on our local community. The charities we support through raising
funds and volunteering depend on us
We hold three community-based fundraisers throughout the League year:
-We kick off our year by raising funds for scholarships at the Pumpkin Patch Dash 5k, on
October 18, 2026. This is a fun event for the whole family.
-The Winter Garden Golf Cart Parade is one of the most popular events in Downtown Winter
Garden. The golf carts are decorated and transformed to parade through the town.
-The Run for the Roses, a Kentucky Derby themed event, is our signature gala with music,
dancing, gaming, and an incredible silent auction.
As we look to the future, we are filled with anticipation of what we can accomplish in the years
to come. Our legacy of impact is a testament to the passion, dedication, and collaboration of
the women who have come before us—and to the incredible support of our partners, sponsors,
and Members.
